While our 8th placing has us behind Canada (46%), South Africa (45%) and Great Britain (43%), we had very similar proportions of those who agreed their workplace is psychologically safe and a healthy environment (42% agreement in Australia). Our similarity to these nations isn’t unexpected as these are nations with whom we would commonly compare ourselves, as we view them as quite culturally similar.

The study also showed high income earners (51%) were significantly more likely to agree with this statement than both middle income earners and (38%) and low income earners (28%). This suggests, that while our workplace health and safety rules and regulations and our IR laws seek to ensure all workers are treated well and are safe at work, those in lower paid work aren’t feeling anywhere near as psychologically safe and healthy at work as their higher paid compatriots.
